America's high school shop classes have largely been replaced by 2-year programs at community colleges and trade schools. Unfortunately this has left many young people and adults untrained and misinformed about how to go about fixing things themselves.
By doing many routine maintenance and repair activities yourself you can save thousands of dollars every year. If you drive 15,000 miles per year just changing your own oil and filters will save you about $150 per year. Learn to do a brake job yourself and save about $500. It typically costs $150 to get an electrician or plumber to show-up and then another $80 per hour while they work at doing minor repairs or upgrades plus their added profit for parts and materials. This extends to every part of your home, do it yourself (DIY) save you big money.
There are lots of YouTube video's on all these subjects but how do you know which ones offer good advise and can be trusted? How many are just "click bait"?
Our program will be taught by experienced industry professionals and will take into consideration all relevant building codes and safety regulations.
The program is currently in the planning stage.
